Building a Relational Language Model: Human Edition is a creative, interactive workshop that invites participants to rethink how meaning is collectively produced. In contrast to opaque and extractive AI systems, this session explores what it means to “aggregate” knowledge as humans through dialogue, collaboration, and shared interpretation.
Designed for researchers, artists, practitioners, graduate students, and faculty, the workshop creates a space to experiment with relational ways of thinking, making, and knowing. Participants will engage in activities that foreground collective intelligence, questioning how language, meaning, and knowledge emerge through human interaction rather than algorithmic processes.
Hosted by Nishant Shah, Director of the Digital Narratives Studio at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Alexandra Juhasz, Distinguished Professor of Film at Brooklyn College, the workshop brings together critical perspectives on media, technology, and pedagogy. It is supported by funding from the CUNY AI Innovation Initiative.
