Digital Narratives Studio: Junior Research Fellowship

The Digital Narratives Studio, invites applications for the 2nd cohort of up to 4 Junior Research Fellows for the academic year 2024-2025. The theme for this year’s cohort is digital care making.

Working with multiple stakeholders, in Asia, Europe and North America, the Digital Narratives Studio is invested in examining the practice, materiality, challenges, theories, and transmission of digital care. We are examining how digital care can be theorized, studied, built, prototyped, manifested, and taught across different communities and stakeholders. The question of digital care particularly thinks about communicative, media, and technological practices and the role and function of care in our societies.

The fellowship builds on the Global Care Lab experiments initiated at the DNS, and invites young researchers to engage with and unpack different ways by which digital care needs to be operationalized and understood in our everyday practices.

The Junior Research Fellowship offers:

  • A mentored opportunity to develop your research ideas through the Digital Narratives Studio platform
  • A research budget of up to 10,000 HKD to facilitate research outreach, amplification, and development
  • A community of scholarship and practice collaborating with global scholars and researchers
  • Resources to develop and publish for different venues
  • Resources to build communities and networks of outreach
  • Opportunity to gain teaching experience by designing classes, workshops, or curriculum from the Fellows’ research

  • Participate in in-person meetings every 6 weeks, to read, respond, and develop ideas for their collective research practice
  • Take initiative to propose and experiment new modes of thinking and writing about their research interest
  • Make at least 1 public presentation about their work during the tenure of the fellowship
